Eric Stults threw one of the best games of his career tonight against the Rockies. He cruised through the first eight innings of the game and had allowed only two hits during that same time frame. He ran into some trouble in the ninth inning but he was able to strike out Josh Rutledge to end the game and get the complete game. The win for the Padres ended their 10 game losing streak. Stults picks up his seventh victory of the year by throwing the four hit shutout.
Jhoulys Chacin threw the ball well for the Rockies but unfortunately was unable to get any support from the offense on the night. Chacin finished the night going six innings allowing five hits, one run, two walks, and four strikeouts. Chacin worked out of a few jams in the game and battled some control issues early on but he was able to figure things out and ultimately get a quality start out of the start. Offensively the Rockies could not get the ball out of the infield for the majority of the game. Eric Stulta kept the Rockies hitters off balance all night long and induced 14 ground balls and had a few pop ups that were easily handled by Padres defenders. Wilin Rosario had two hits on the night including a double in the ninth inning which got him into scoring position and allowed Nolan Arenado to score him on his RBI single. Josh Rutledge had the only other hit in the game for the Rockies but was unable to come around to score.
The Rubber match of the series will be played tomorrow night at 8:10 PM Mountain time. It should be another good pitchers duel as the Rockies will be sending Jorge De La Rosa to the mound to face off against Andrew Cashner of the Padres.
