Not much went right for the Rockies on Saturday night as they were defeated by the Diamondbacks 11-1. Wade Miley picked up his first victory for the D-Backs since June 5th and Drew Pomeranz dropped to 0-2 on the year with an astronomical 9.72 ERA. Pomeranz finished the day going four innings allowing five hits, five runs, five walks and only struck out two batters. He was wild and inefficient throughout the game and he could not even get the opposing pitcher out as Miley got the D-Backs on the board with a bases loaded double with two outs in the second inning that cleared the bases. He has looked bad on the year so far and the Rockies organization has hopes that he will turn it around, but after the first two starts of the year they have to be worried that it might never come.
The Diamondbacks had 12 hits on the night and the only starter for them without a hit was Didi Gregorius. Cody Ross continues to kill the Rockies as he went 5-5 tonight with a double and a stolen base and he scored three runs. It was the first career five hit game for Ross. Paul Goldschmidt also got into the action as he went 1-3 with a home run, two RBI, two runs, and two walks.
The Rockies struggled to get anything going against Wade Miley on the night and were only able to get six hits in the game. Carlos Gonzalez showed no ill effects from his back injury as he went 4-4 with a home run off of Miley. Other than that the Rockies had nothing going on offense and lost ground in the division for the second consecutive day.
The series finale will be played at Chase Field on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 2:10 PM Mountain time. Roy Oswalt will be looking for his first win as a member of the Rockies as he faces off against Patrick Corbin of the Diamondbacks. Corbin has made a strong case for potentially starting the All Star game and will be looking to continue his Cinderella season against the Rockies on Sunday.
