Rockies Game Preview: 7/25

The Rockies were unable to break out of their offensive slump last night, but thanks to some good pitching the Rockies were able to pick up the victory 2-1. Jorge De La Rosa picked up his 10th victory of the season and he became the first Rockies pitcher to hit double digit victories on the season. The Rockies are set to take on The young Marlins this afternoon and will be looking to salvage a series split against them in this final game of their four game series.

Juan Nicasio will be taking the mound for the Rockies in today's game against the Marlins. He has been a pleasant surprise for the Rockies since he was recalled from AAA to take the place of injured pitcher Roy Oswalt in the rotation. He is 2-0 since his return and has picked up victories against the Dodgers and the Cubs. His last start against the Cubs he went five innings allowing just three hits, one run, two walks and struck out three. He is now 6-4 on the season with a 4.73 ERA. He has pitched better at home this year as he has a 3-1 record with a 4.50 ERA in eight games started. Current Marlins have only eight at bats off of Nicasio with three hits a two RBI. Nicasio will be looking to keep his good stretch going by keeping the Marlins hitters at bay and making sure that he keeps their speed off of the base paths. If he can keep the ball low in the zone and make sure that he works ahead in the count, then he has a good chance of working deeper into the game and giving the Rockies a good chance at a victory.

The Marlins will be sending Nathan Eovaldi. The Former Dodger is 2-1 on the year with a 4.15 ERA on the year. He was roughed up in his last start against the Brewers as he took the loss in the game. He lasted only four innings allowing 10 hits, six runs, two walks, and he struck out five. At 23 years old, he has had a good deal of experience as he made his debut with the Dodgers in 2011. He has good stuff as both his fastball and sinker will average in the low to mid 90's. He also has a slider, curve and changeup. He will use his slider as his secondary out pitch, and the one that he will get the most strikeouts with. In four games started on the road this year he has struggled as he has posted a 1-1 record with a 5.16 ERA. Coming from the Dodgers, Eovaldi has had some history with the Rockies hitters. Current Rockies hitters are hitting .318 against him with four doubles and four RBI in 44 combined at bats.
