Rockies Lose to Diamondbacks

The Rockies dropped the series opener against the Diamondbacks tonight and failed to take advantage of an opportunity to draw closer to the lead in the National League West division. Tyler Skaggs was dominant and he turned in his best start as a professional. He finished the game going eight innings allowing just three hits, no runs, one walk and struck out five. He retired 18 straight hitters spanning from a Corey Dickerson Single in the first inning to a Michael Cuddyer infield single in the 7th inning. He looked fantastic and showed why he is one of the best pitching prospects in all of Major League Baseball.

The Rockies only managed three singles on the night and it looked as though they were having a difficult time picking up the ball out of the hand of the Arizona lefty. Jorge De La Rosa pitched tonight for the Rockies but did not seem comfortable on the mound throughout his start. He lasted just 5 and 1/3rd innings allowing seven hits, three runs and struck out five. It was hard to tell if he was having any ill effects from his bruised left thumb that caused him to exit his last start. He seemed to be throwing the ball just fine, but was not as accurate as he has been in previous outings.

Both teams will be back at it on Saturday night when Drew Pomeranz will be facing off against Wade Miley. Both pitchers will be looking to get back to form and help their teams win. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 8:10 PM Mountain time.
