Patrick Corbin once again dominated the Rockies and improved his record on the year to 3-0 against them. The offense looked bad again today and was unable to get any momentum going. Corbin retired 12 straight hitters after he walked Cuddyer in the first inning, and then after a Jonathan Herrera single he retired another eight hitters until Jonathan Herrera got Corbin again this time breaking up the shutout with a solo home run. The only other hit in the game was provided by Carlos Gonzalez, who had a single with two outs in the first inning.
Corbin's final line in the game was eight innings allowing three hits, one run, one walk and struck out 10 batters. He has been one of the best starters in the entire Majors this year and he had been sitting on nine wins for over a month but was finally able to break into double digits with his 10th win today. Roy Oswalt took the loss in the game after allowing one run prior to exiting the game with two outs in the second inning. He strained his hamstring running home to cover after he threw a wild pitch that allowed the first run of the game. In the Series the Rockies were outscored 23-2 with their only two runs in the series coming off a Carlos Gonzalez home run yesterday and a Jonathan Herrera home run today. As if the news could not get any worse for the Rockies, Carlos Gonzalez had to leave the game in the ninth inning when he took a swing and fouled a ball off. He did something to his middle finger on his left hand and was visibly in pain as Rockies trainer Keith Dugger checked him out.
The Rockies are heading out west to take on the San Diego Padres for a three game series starting tomorrow at 8:10 PM Mountain time. Tyler Chatwood will be taking the mound for the Rockies tomorrow to face off against Edison Volquez for the Padres. The Padres are currently the coldest team in all of Major League Baseball as they have now lost nine straight games which might be just what the Rockies need in order to break out of this slump they have been in.
