The Rockies will be looking to break out offensively against the Marlins as they have lost the first two games of the series while only scoring three combined runs. They lost last night by a final score of 4-2 behind a great pitching performance from rookie Jose Fernandez. Todd Helton provided most of the offensive firepower for the Rockies as he blasted a solo home run in the second inning that landed in the second deck in right field. The Rockies have struggled to score runs in this home stand, which is the worst timing for a power outage as they are trying to decide if they will be buyers or sellers for the upcoming trade deadline.
Tonight the Rockies will be sending the ever reliable Jorge De La Rosa to the mound to take on the Marlins. De La Rosa has been the most consistent pitcher for the Rockies this year and has posted a 9-5 win-loss record with a very good 3.12 ERA. He was good in his last start start against the Cubs but was unable to get any run support so he was forced to take a no decision in the game. He finished that game going six innings allowing only five hits, one run, three walks and struck out four. He has now had four quality starts in his last six times out and he has not allowed more than three runs in any of his last seven starts. De La Rosa has put the Coors Field hype behind him and has been outstanding this year at home. He has posted a 5-1 record with a 2.96 ERA in nine starts at home. In limited history against the Marlins hitters, De La Rosa has held them to a combined .245 average with one home runs and seven RBI in 49 combined at bats. De La Rosa needs to have another good start tonight and be able to get the Rockies going and perhaps send them into a winning streak that will allow the front office to make some moves which makes the team better and ultimately lead to some playoff births down the line.
The Marlins will be sending Jacob Turner to the mound tonight to face off against the struggling Rockies offense. The 22 year old Turner has been a top prospect for the last couple of years and was a first round pick of the Tigers in 2009. He has not been able to put it together in the Major Leagues until this year with the Marlins. He has posted a 3-2 record with a very good 2.44 ERA. He has not been as good on the road as he has been at home as he has not won a game on the road and he has both of his losses as well. This will be the first time that current Rockies will see Turner and they will be looking to give him a rude welcome to the thin air of Coors Field.
The Marlins lineup for the game tonight is as follows:
1. Adeiny Hechavarria, SS
2. Christian Yelich, LF
3. Giancarlo Stanton, RF
4. Ed Lucas, 1B
5. Placido Polanco, 3B
6.Jake Marisnick, CF
7. Donovan Solano, 2B
8. Jeff Mathis, C
9. Jacob Turner, P
The Rockies lineup for the game tonight is as follows:
1. Dexter Fowler, CF
2. DJ LeMahieu, 2B
3. Carlos Gonzalez, LF
4. Troy Tulowitzki, SS
5. Michael Cuddyer, RF
6. Todd Helton, 1B
7. Nolan Arenado, 3B
8. Yorvit Torrealba, C
9. Jorge De La Rosa, P
First pitch for the game tonight is at 6:40 PM Mountain time. The Rockies are slumping right now but as we all know they are more than capable of breaking out of it and scoring in double digits. They are in need of a game that they can build some momentum on. If they can get a game where they blow out the opponent or they come from behind and win in a thriller. If the Rockies can get one of these games then perhaps they can build the momentum to move forward with and rattle off a streak of wins.
