Rockies Get Crucial Win Against Brewers

The Rockies won a wild game in the series finale with the Brewers today at Coors Field by the final score of 6-5. The Rockies jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Troy Tulowitzki belted a home run in the first inning of the game. The Brewers tied the game up in the second inning when Jeff Bianchi hit an infield single with the bases loaded. The Brewers then took the lead on a home run by Norichika Aoki in the third inning and then another run in the fourth inning when Jeff Bianchi hit another RBI single. The Rockies came back to tie the game in the sixth inning with two home runs by Corey Dickerson and Michael Cuddyer. They took the lead in the seventh when Dexter Fowler took a pitch opposite field for a home run. The lead was short lived as Yuniesky Betancourt hit a home run in the eighth inning off of Matt Belisle. The Rockies came charging back in the eighth with a pair of clutch RBI hits, one from Michael Cuddyer and the game winner was provided by Nolan Arenado. Rex Brothers came in and worked the ninth inning and got his seventh save of the season.

Jhoulys Chacin did not have his best stuff on the night but he was able to battle through seven innings and left in line for the win. Matt Belisle continues to struggle this year and that was the case again today as he gave up the lead when he issued the eighth inning home run to Yuniesky Betancourt. The Rockies offense was able to bail him out though and he was the winning pitcher in the game. John Axford took the loss for the Brew Crew.

The Rockies finally had a good game hitting the ball and were able to pound out 12 hits including three home runs, one double and a rare triple by Todd Helton. Dexter Fowler, Corey Dickerson, Troy Tulowitzki, Michael Cuddyer, and Nolan Arenado each had two hits in the game. Every Rockies starter had at least one hit with the exception of Jonathan Herrera. This was just what the Rockies needed before heading out on a 10 day road trip. This win will give them momentum to build on moving forward with the rest of the season.

The Rockies will be back in action tomorrow night when they take on the Atlanta Braves for the beginning of a four game series. Jorge De La Rosa will be on the mound for the Rockies taking on Brandon Beachy of the Braves. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 5:10 PM Mountain time.
