Rockies Lose First Game Back from Break

The Colorado Rockies offense must not have received the memo that they were back from break. They lost the game tonight vs the Cubs 3-1 and the offense failed to muster up any kind of a fight with the exception of Dexter Fowler's 11th home run of the season. Jeff Samardzija threw the ball well for the Cubs tonight as he lasted 7 1/3rd innings allowing just four hits, one run, three walks and he struck out six on the night. Jorge De La Rosa had another quality start for the Rockies as he went six innings allowing five hits, one run, three walks and struck out four. He took a no decision on the night and the game was left in the hands of the bullpen. Edgmer Escalona took the loss on the night and he is now 1-3 on the year with a 4.70 ERA.

The night belonged to Cubs center fielder Junior Lake who made his Major League Debut for the Cubs in tonight's game. He did not waste any time as he swung at the first pitch he saw in the Major Leagues and drove it down the left field line for a double. He finished the night 3 for 4 and had a smile on his face at the end of the game as he will never forget this night. The one bright spot for the Rockies is that Troy Tulowitzki seems to be back on track and he secured his first two hits since coming back off of the disabled list.

The Rockies and Cubs will be back at it tomorrow night as first pitch is scheduled for 6:10 PM Mountain time. Juan Nicasio will be taking the ball for the Rockies and he will be facing off against Carlos Villanueva of the Cubs.
