Rockies Begin Series With Reds

The Colorado Rockies are beginning a three game series with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night in Cincinnati at Great American Ballpark. The Rockies are coming off of a great series with the Dodgers and the walk off win on Saturday propelled them to an offensive show on Sunday. Winners of two straight the Rockies are looking to keep their record in June perfect.

The Rockies will be sending young Tyler Chatwood to the mound tonight to face off against the talented Reds lineup. Chatwood has burst onto the scene for the Rockies and is making a case that he needs to stay in the Rockies rotation even when Jeff Francis comes back from the DL. On the year Chatwood has a 3-0 record with a 2.12 ERA. He had one of the best starts of his young career last time out against the Astros but unfortunately he was not able to get the victory in a 6-3 loss. He took the no decision as he went 6 innings allowing four hits, two runs, he walked one batter an struck out a career high 10. Away from Coors Field Chatwood has not allowed an earned run in two starts. In those two starts he has gone 12 combined innings allowing only nine hits, one walk and he has struck out nine. Chatwood has limited history against the Reds as he has only faced Shin-Soo Choo six times and Jack Hannahan three times. He has not allowed a hit to either one. Chatwood will be looking to keep the momentum in the Rockies favor and continue his own dominance on the mound.

The Reds will be countering with veteran right hander Bronson Arroyo. On the year Arroyo has a 3-3 record with a 3.75 ERA. Arroyo is a workhorse that fight for everything on the mound his big sweeping curveball is a devastating pitch to right handed hitters. He is coming off of a rough start in Cleveland his last time out as he went 5 2/3rd innings allowing eight hits, five runs, one walk and only struck out three. He is very good at home and has compiled a 4-1 record with a 3.18 ERA in six home starts this year. Arroyo has struggled in his career with current Rockies hitters and in 109 combined at bats Rockies hitters are hitting .312 with five home runs and 14 RBI. Arroyo will be looking to keep the Rockies hitters off balance all night by mixing in his breaking balls to go along with his fastball.
