This Day in Baseball History: 6/1

1961- After playing just six games as a member of the Braves, Billy Martin is traded to the Indians for Billy Consolo.

1975- Nolan Ryan earns his 100th career victory and doing so in memorable fashion as he beat the orioles 1-0 and picked up his fourth career no hitter in the process.

1992- The Houston Astros selected Phil Nevin in the draft over Derek Jeter. The reason the Astros did not want to select the standout shortstop out of high school was because they felt that he would be seeking a bonus of more than one million dollars in order to forego his scholarship to play ball at the University of Michigan.

2012- Johan Santana throws the first no hitter in 50 years of New York Mets history. The 33 year old Santana needed 134 pitches to accomplish the feat which may have cost him the rest of the year as he was never the same after the game and eventually would undergo surgery and be out for the year.
