Rockies Drop Series to Nationals

The Rockies dropped the rubber match with the Nationals on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 5-4. Craig Stammen took the win for the nationals and improved his season record to 4-2 with a 2.94 ERA. Matt Belisle took the loss for the Rockies and is now 4-3 on the year with a 3.57 ERA.

Unfortunately for the Rockies they may have lost more than just a game today. Carlos Gonzalez and Dexter Fowler both had to leave the game early with injuries. Gonzalez was hit by a foul ball while on deck. X-rays were negative but he will most likely be out a few days to let the swelling subside. Fowler was hit by a pitch from Ross Detwiler while he was squaring around to bunt. He stayed in for one more inning but had to leave after that. Hopefully these injuries are just minor and will not require either player to miss extended time. Fowler was getting his swing back on track and Gonzalez leads the team in home runs with 18 and RBI with 52. The Rockies can't afford to have them out of the lineup if they want to remain in the race for the division title.

The Rockies will begin a three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. After the three game set they will be leaving for Toronto to take on the Blue Jays in an interleague match up starting on Monday.
