Rockies Game Preview: 6/23

The Rockies finally broke out of their losing streak as they defeated the Nationals yesterday afternoon 7-   1.The offense broke out of the slump as every Rockies starter including Jhoulys Chacin had at least one hit on the day. DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado each had solo home runs and Michael Cuddyer extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Cuddyer has now reached base safely in 39 straight games. The day belonged to Rockies rookie Corey Dickerson as he made his Major League debut. He did not waste any time getting into the action as he slashed a RBI double into the left centerfield gap in the first inning for his first hit as a Major Leaguer. He finished the day going 2-4 with two doubles. The future of the Rockies looks very bright for many years to come.

Jorge De La Rosa will be taking the mound for the Rockies in the series finale today. De La Rosa is 7-4 on the year with a 3.21 ERA. His last time out he threw the ball great but ended up taking a no decision on the day. He went seven innings against the Blue Jays and allowed only one hit while walking three and striking out four. On the road this year De La Rosa has a 2-3 record with a 3.04 ERA in eight games started. He has not received the run support on the road that he has gotten at home, but he has been consistent wherever he takes the mound and has given the Rockies a chance to win each time out. De La Rosa took the loss on June 12th against the Nationals when he gave up 3 runs in 5 1/3rd innings pitched. Current Nationals hitters are hitting .259 against De La Rosa with two home runs and 11 RBI in 58 combined at bats. Jorge will be trying to build on the performance that he had in Toronto. If he can string together a couple of quality starts together then it will go a long ways for building his confidence up for the rest of the season.

The Nationals will be sending Ross Detwiler to the mound to face the Rockies in the afternoon affair. Detwiler has a 2-5 record this year with a respectable 3.34 ERA. He took the loss in his last time out against the Phillies when he went six innings allowing seven hits and four runs. He faced off against the Rockies on June 13th and took a no decision. In the game he lasted only five innings allowing six hits and three runs. At home this year, Detwiler has a 1-2 record with a 2.92 ERA. The history is brief but Rockies hitters have owned Detwiler in their previous matchups. They are hitting .389 against him with seven doubles and four RBI in 36 at bats. Carlos Gonzalez is 2-2 against him with a double.
