Rockies Walk Off A Winner!

Nolan Arenado played the part of the hero in their 2-1 victory against the Giants this afternoon. Arenado took a 2-2 pitch from Jeremy Affeldt back up the middle that allowed Josh Rutledge to score the game winning run. Rutledge pinch ran for Todd Helton who drew a two out walk against Affeldt to keep the inning alive and allow Arenado to come up to bat. The Rockies had a good pitching performance on the day from Jorge De La Rosa but he was taken out of the game before throwing a pitch in the seventh inning due to a bruise on his left thumb. Three relievers worked in the seventh inning to get three outs and Matt Belisle worked an inning and a third of scoreless baseball which will hopefully get him going back in the right direction on the mound moving forward. In his first game back from the disabled list, Rafael Betancourt picked up the victory as he worked a perfect ninth inning. He is now 2-3 on the year with a 3.05 ERA.

Michael Cuddyer continues to roll and his hitting streak is now at 26 games after he picked up an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning that got the Rockies the early lead. The Rockies were only able to get four hits on the day as Matt Cain shut down the Rockies after the second inning of the game. Matt Cain finished his day by retiring 20 straight hitters. The Rockies hitters were unable to come up with the big hits again today but they were facing a great pitcher in Cain that kept them in check for the majority of the game. Luckily the Rockies pitchers were able to keep the game tied and give the Rockies a chance to win the game with one swing of the bat in the ninth inning, which is just what Arenado was able to do.

The Rockies will be going for the sweep tomorrow afternoon as Drew Pomeranz will be making his 2013 season debut for the Rockies. He will be facing off against a very tough left hander in Madison Bumgarner. First pitch for the game tomorrow is scheduled for 2:10 PM Mountain time.
