Rockies Fall Short Against Nationals

The Rockies lost a close game to the Nationals tonight and it gave Stephen Strasburg his first win in the month of June. Strasburg had all of his pitches working and it was tough for the Rockies to get anything going offensively. The Rockies pushed the first run of the game across in the third inning when red hot DJ LeMahieu drove in Josh Rutledge with a single. Unfortunately that was all of the offense on the night for the Rockies. Ryan Zimmerman hit a game tying double in the sixth inning off of Tyler Chatwood and then Ian Desmond hit a home run in the 7th inning off of Manny Corpas and that was all of the scoring from the game.

Stephen Strasburg pitched seven innings allowing five hits and just the one run. He did not walk anybody and struck out nine. Tyler Chatwood also threw the ball well as he went six innings allowing only four hits, one run, two walks and he struck out four on the day. Ian Desmond hit his third home run in as many days and continues to be a thorn in the Rockies side. On a brighter note, Michael Cuddyer extended his hitting streak to 19 games when he roped a single to right field in his first at bat.

The Rockies will play the Nationals in a early game tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 10:05 AM Mountain time. The Rockies will try and avoid losing six straight games and begin a winning streak of their own.
