The Rockies are set to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in game two of their series tonight at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Blue Jays took game one of the series when they shut out the Rockies for a 2-0 win. Jorge De La Rosa was outstanding for the Rockies as he went seven innings allowing just one hit. Matt Belisle was unable to keep the game tied in the eighth inning when the Blue Jays got two men across the plate on a single by Maicer Izturis.
The Rockies will send Jeff Francis to the mound tonight to take on the Blue Jays. Francis bought himself one more start with the Rockies when he went six innings allowing two runs and striking out eight batters against the Washington Nationals. His season numbers are not very good with a 2-4 record and a 5.87 ERA. On the road this year Francis has posted a 1-1 record with a 4.97 ERA. The history between Blue Jays hitters and Francis favor the Blue Jays as they are hitting a combined .307 against him with three home runs and 16 RBI in 101 at bats. Francis may just be holding a place for Roy Oswalt who could be called up depending on the result of the game today. Francis has been disappointing this year and has failed to make it past the sixth inning in any game this year. He has only one win since April 5th and has failed to keep opponents off the base paths by allowing hits and walks at a staggering rate. Tonight very well could be the last start for Jeff Francis as a member of the Colorado Rockies.
The Blue Jays will be sending Esmil Rogers to the mound tonight to face off against his former team. Rogers is 2-2 on the year with a 3.21 ERA. He was coming out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays but was recently promoted to the starting rotation. His last time out he went seven innings allowing just one run on five hits against the Texas Rangers and defeated them 3-1. At home this year he has an 0-1 record with a 2.79 ERA. Rogers is very familiar with the Rockies hitters as he was a member of the Rockies for each of the last four years. Rogers will be looking to make a statement against his former team and show them what they are missing by pitching well tonight.
