Perhaps the Colorado Rockies should wear their batting practice jerseys more often. That is what they were wearing this afternoon and the offense went off. The offense finally came to life as they beat the Nationals 7-1. The Rockies got things going with a bang as they scored three runs in the first inning and then another three runs in the fourth inning. Dan Haren had his shortest outing of the year as he lasted only 3 1/3rd innings allowing seven hits and six runs. Jhoulys Chacin controlled the strike zone on the afternoon and finished the day going seven innings allowing five hits and no runs. He walked one and struck out three. The best thing to see is that his pitch count after seven innings was only 94 which is what you want from a starter is to be able to work later into the game and have a lower pitch count.
Michael Cuddyer extended his hitting streak to 20 games after he singled in the first inning off of Dan Haren. Every Rockies starter had at least one hit including Jhoulys Chacin who helped his own cause with an RBI single in the fourth inning. DJ LeMahieu hit his first home run on the season and collected three total hits on the day. Corey Dickerson made his Major League debut today playing right field and did not waste any time getting his first hit out of the way. Dickerson came up to bat in the first inning and lined a RBI double to the left center field gap. He later doubled in his next at bat and finished the day 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI. The Rockies are back at the .500 mark as they improve their record to 38-38.
The Rockies will be back at it tomorrow afternoon against the Nationals in the series finale. This will be the last time that the two teams will meet up this year unless they face each other in the playoffs. The first pitch for the game tomorrow is scheduled for 11:35 AM Mountain time
