The Rockies fall under .500 with a 39-40 record with the loss to the Red Sox today by a final score of 5-3. Roy Oswalt got off to a rough start as he gave up three runs in the first inning and threw 32 pitches in the inning. He settled down a bit later on in the game but gave up Boston's other two runs in the third inning. He finished the game going six innings allowing nine hits, five runs one walk and struck out five. The Rockies jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Wilin Rosario drove in Carlos Gonzalez in the first inning, but it was a lead that the Rockies did not hold for very long.
John Lackey threw a great game and the Rockies hitters were unable to figure him out throughout the day. He finished the day going seven innings allowing eight hits, two runs, no walks and struck out 12 batters. He was fantastic and was able to limit the damage when he did allow base runners.
Michael Cuddyer had a big game for the Rockies and provided the rest of the offense for the team. Cuddyer drilled a home run in the sixth inning off of John Lackey which sailed over the Green Monster. He then came up in the 8th inning and hit another home run this time off of Junichi Tazawa. He has now tied the club record with a 23 game hitting streak and broke the team record for most consecutive games reaching base with 42. He will try and break the tie with Dante Bichette for the hitting streak when the Rockies take on the Mets tomorrow night at Coors Field.
The Rockies finished the Road trip going 2-7 and were swept by the Blue Jays and the Red Sox. The Rockies are now 3-12 against American League opponents this year. The Rockies will be looking to get things back on track as they begin a seven game home stand tomorrow.
