A look at June 19th in the pages of Baseball History

1942: Paul Waner collects his 3000th hit. At the time the Braves outfielder became the seventh player to accomplish the feat.

1952: Carl Erskine throws a no hitter against the Cubs. The Dodgers pitcher allowed a walk to the opposing pitcher in the third inning, which was the only base runner in the game against him.

1972: Roberto Clemente smashes a two run home run in the eighth inning and becomes the Pirates all-time RBI leader.

1989: Dwight Gooden wins his 100th game as the Mets defeat the Expos 5-3. At his point his record was 100-37 which was the second best record for a pitcher at his 100th victory behind Whitey Ford who started 100-36.

1996: Ozzie Smith announces that he will be retiring at the end of the season. "The Wizard" was elected into the Hall of Fame in the first year that he is eligible.
