The Rockies dropped another close game to the Mets today as they were unable to hold a one run lead and eventually lost 3-2. The Rockies had a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning when they brought in Matt Belisle to try and hold the lead and get it to Rex Brothers in the ninth inning. Belisle struggled again and gave up a two run home run to Marlon Byrd which was the difference in the game. Belisle is now 4-5 on the year with a terrible 4.95 ERA. He was great in 2012 but it has been a different story this year as he has come into several games and gave up leads or made them closer then the game should have been. He has been one of the biggest disappointments for the Rockies this year.
Michael Cuddyer continues to swing a hot bat and he picked up three more hits today. He now has multiple hits in four straight games and his hitting streak is now at 24 games and he has also reached base safely in 43 games. He passed Dante Bichette for the franchise record for a hitting streak when he hit a single in his first at bat today. The way he is swinging the bat, I am not sure who is going to be able to stop him. Wilin Rosario also had two hits on the day and he is finally starting to break out of his slump that he has been in for a while.
The Rockies will begin a three game series with the Giants starting with their game at 6:40 PM Mountain time on Friday Night. That match up will be Jhoulys Chacin vs. Barry Zito. In the series the Rockies will also face Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner who have been notoriously tough against the Rockies. If the Rockies want to break out of their slump, then they will have to do it against some of the best pitching in their division.
