I know this is a day late but I wanted to let all of the Rockies faithful just in case that you did not know. Charlie Blackmon was called up on Sunday to take the place of Michael Cuddyer who was placed on the disabled list after not progressing fast enough from his neck injury. Blackmon flew into St Louis and was the starting right fielder for the series finale against the Cardinals. After striking out in his first two at bats, Blackmon found his grove in the sixth inning when he belted a two run home run off of Jaime Garcia. He added a single in the eight inning to finish the day 2-4 with two RBI. Blackmon first burst onto the scene for the Rockies in 2011 before he hit a string of injuries that has cost him some time at the Major league level. He has all of the talent to be successful but he will need to prove that he can stay healthy from here on out.
Charlie was having a great year so far and was imposing his will on Pacific Coast League pitching for the Sky Sox (AAA). At the time of his call up he was hitting .336 with three home runs, 21 RBI and 25 runs in just 31 games played for the team. Blackmon has put up some Gaudy numbers at the minor league level as he has a career average of .313 with 39 home runs and 264 RBI in 452 games played. He has a knack for getting on base and has good base running skills that allows him to score a great deal of runs. He has yet to be able to put it all together at the Major League level but he is someone who can get on a hot streak and stay there for a while.
Michael Cuddyer is expected to be back as soon as he is eligible to return for the disabled list but in the mean time look for Eric Young Jr to get most of the starts in right field with Charlie Blackmon also filling in from time to time.
