The Colorado Rockies ended a 10-game losing streak against the division rival Giants in a a 10-9 victory on Friday night. The score reflects an old fashioned pre-humidor game at Coors Field as both offenses had outbursts. It was a sloppy game from both sides as the Giants had four errors and the Rockies had one. Both teams had double digit hits, Rockies had 11 hits and the Giants had 15 hits. Prior to the start of the game many people thought that this game was going to be a pitchers duel between Jorge De La Rosa and Madison Bumgarner as both pitchers had sub three ERA's entering the game. That was definitely not the case as neither pitcher made it past five innings. Bumgarner went 4.2 innings allowing eight hits, nine runs (seven earned runs), two walks and struck out four. De La Rosa went five innings allowing nine hits, five runs, with one walk and one strikeout. The Win for the Rockies was the first win against the Giants since September 10th of last year (10 straight losses).
Jordan Pacheco was the offensive hero of the night for the Rockies as he delivered the big blow when he hit his first career Grand Slam off of Madison Bumgarner in the fifth inning. The Rockies built the lead to 10-5 and then held onto the lead and ended up winning by just one. The Rockies showed a lot of fight throughout the night especially after going down 4-0 and having to face one of the premier lefty arms in the game in Bumgarner. They fought back and showed the heart that is needed in order to become a championship team. As long as the players on this team never lose that attitude then they have a real shot at making some noise later on in the season. Tonight was a big win for the Rockies and one that will hopefully propel them on to a good stretch of games against their divisional opponents.
