The Rockies offense finally came out of hibernation on Sunday to salvage one game against the Cardinals. After just managing three hits and no runs in the previous two games the Rockies tallied eight runs on 11 hits including two home runs. Troy Tulowitzki got the scoring going when he hit a three run homer in the third inning of the game. Fresh off of the plane from Colorado Springs, Charlie Blackmon hit a two run home run in the sixth inning to make the lead 5-0. Blackmon was called up after the Rockies decided to place Michael Cuddyer on the 15 day disabled list to help him heal from his disc problem in his neck. The lead was extended to 8-0 in the eighth inning on a two run double by Reid Brignac and an RBI single for Dexter Fowler.
Jorge De La Rosa easily had his best start of the year and flirted with a no hitter until it was broken up with two outs in the seventh inning. He finished the day going seven innings allowing just two hits and three walks and also struck out seven batters. The Rockies relievers could not hold the shut out in the ninth inning as Matt Belisle gave up two runs. Overall the pitching staff had a very good weekend in St Louis even though they only came away with one victory. They held the Cardinals to eight runs in the three games but the offense was unable to score in the first two games of the series.
The Rockies are headed from St Louis to Chicago to take on the Chicago Cubs for a three game series beginning on Monday night. This is a rare series in Chicago as they will not be playing any afternoon games. All three of the games will be played under the lights which is the first time that has happened in the Rockies history.
