The Colorado Rockies dropped the opener against the Giants on Thursday night 8-6. After jumping out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, the bats went cold and they failed to score anymore the rest of the game. The scoring began with a Todd Helton two run home run that nearly brought rain down the right field line. The towering shot glanced off the foul pole and Todd promptly trotted around the bases. On the next pitch from Matt Cain, Nolan Arenado took him deep to left center to make the score 3-0. The home run barrage continued in the third inning when Wilin Rosario took Cain to the opposite field in right over the auxiliary scoreboard for a three run shot. The Giants answered back in the fourth inning with five runs and then put up another crooked number in the sixth inning with three runs. Matt Cain improved to 3-2 on the season even though his ERA went up from 5.04 to 5.43. Jhoulys Chacin took the loss and is now 3-3 with a 4.07 ERA.
Game two of the series pits two lefties facing off in Madison Bumgarner and Jorge De La Rosa. Bumgarner is 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA. De La Rosa is 4-3 with a 2.98 ERA on the season. Wilin Rosario broke out of a mini slump on Thursday night with two hits and he hit his first home run since April 29th. The next player that needs a breakout game is Dexter Fowler. He began the season on fire but has been ice cold of late and needs a few hits in order to get his confidence back.
First pitch for Game two is scheduled for 6:40 PM Mountain time.
