This Day in Baseball History: 5/29

A look at May 29th in the pages of Baseball History

1946- Edward Klep becomes the first white player to play in a Negro Leagues game. Klep tossed seven innings for the Cleveland Buckeyes against the American Giants.

1976- Joe and Phil Niekro face off against one another. Joe as a member of the Astros defeats his older brother Phil and the Braves 4-1. Joe also hit his first and only home run off of his brother in the game.

1990- Oakland Athletics Rickey Henderson swipes third base in a game against the Blue Jays and breaks the 62 year old American League stolen base record of 892 held by Ty Cobb.

2000- At Yankee stadium, Randy Velarde of the Oakland Athletics completes the 10th unassisted triple play in baseball history against the Yankees.

2010- Angels first basemen Kendrys Morales breaks his left ankle as he jumps into home plate to meet his teammates after he had just hit a walk off grand slam to beat the Mariners 9-7. This injury cost Morales more than a year of playing time and eventually he was dealt to Seattle prior to the 2013 season.
