The Colorado Rockies fell to the Houston Astros tonight by a final score of 6-3. It was a close game throughout as the score was tied 2-2 after seven innings but the Astros were able to push a run across in the eighth and three in the ninth inning to secure the victory. Colorado attempted a comeback in the ninth inning, but they fell short and lost the game. Both starting pitchers fared well on the day as Erik Bedard threw six innings allowing seven hits and two runs while walking three and striking out four for the Astros. Tyler Chatwood had another quality start for the Rockies as he finished the night going six innings allowing four hits and two runs and walked one hitter while striking out a season high 10 batters. Unfortunately the Rockies were unable to sustain any momentum on offense and once again failed to score more than two runs in a game for the third consecutive game. Paul Clemens was the winning pitcher on the night and improved his season record to 3-2 on the year. Edgmer Escalona took the loss for the Rockies and his record is now 1-2 on the year.
The Rockies were led offensively again by Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Cuddyer. Tulowitzki went 3-4 on the day with two home runs and all three of the RBI for the Rockies. Cuddyer also had three hits on the day and added a stolen base. Other than those two the Rockies offense was rather dormant on the night as they could only muster three other singles from the rest of the roster.
This has been a disappointing series for the Rockies as the Astros have been one of the worst teams in baseball during the year. They were hoping to take at least three games from them and be able to get back to the top of the division. The offense has been non existent during the series and they will need to come back with a statement victory in the series finale on Thursday in order to build some momentum heading into the weekend series against the Dodgers.
