Rockies Begin Series with the Cardinals

The Colorado Rockies will begin a three game series against the St Louis Cardinals on Friday night. The Rockies are heading into the game after losing two straight to the depleted Yankees at home. The Cardinals are one of the hottest teams in baseball and currently hold the best record in baseball. They have been stellar both offensively and defensively. The Cardinals are led offensively by Carlos Beltrran and Matt Holliday. Beltran leads the team with eight homeruns and Holliday is dangerous because of his power and ability to hit for average. Pitching tonight for the Cardinals is rookie phenom Shelby Miller who has been as advertised early on in the season. He has a 4-2 record with a 1.96 ERA in six games started on the year. They suffered a blow in their bullpen early in the season when Jason Motte went down for the season with an elbow injury but Edward Mujica has filled in nicely and has converted all nine of his save chances while boasting a 1.93 ERA and a stellar 0.64 WHIP. The lineup for the Cardinals tonight is as follows:

1. Matt Carpenter, 2B
2. Carlos Beltran, RF
3. Matt Holliday, LF
4. Allen Craig, 1B
5. Yadier Molina, C
6. Jon Jay, CF
7. David Freese, 3B
8. Peter Kozma, SS
9. Shelby Miller, P

The Rockies are looking to get going offensively again after being held to just five runs total during the three game series with the Yankees. They will counter tonight with veteran right hander Jon Garland who has a 3-2 record on the year with a 4.75 ERA. Michael Cuddyer will be out of the lineup again tonight as Walt Weiss is resting the veteran for a second straight day in order to be able to work Eric Young Jr into the lineup. After 10 games of play in the major leagues for Nolan Arenado he has certainly impressed everyone around the league. His average sits at .244 but he has had some loud outs that very easily could have been hits. He has three homeruns including a grand slam with eight RBI. One of the most impressive parts of his game is that he has only struck out three times in 41 at bats. He is a free swinger and will not draw very many walks, but he has a tremendous ability to make contact with the ball and make sure that he gets the barrel on it. He has a bright future and should be a contributor for many years to come in the future. The Rockies lineup for tonight is as follows:

1. Eric Young Jr., RF
2. Dexter Fowler, CF
3. Carlos Gonzalez, LF
4. Troy Tulowitzki, SS
5. Wilin Rosario, C
6. Todd Helton, 1B
7. Nolan Arenado, 3B
8. Josh Rutledge, 2B
9. Jon Garland, P
