The Colorado Rockies will be looking to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon in Houston as they will be taking on the Astros in game two of their series. The Astros got the better of the Rockies in the first game but it took them 12 innings and they did not look like the better team on the day, but the Rockies missed several opportunities to score the go ahead runs and that caused them to lose the game.
The Rockies will be sending Jorge De La Rosa to the mound Tuesday. De La Rosa has a 6-3 record on the year with a 3.40 ERA. He will be looking to cap off a perfect May going 5-5 in the month. De La Rosa has not lost a game since April 30th when he took the loss against the Dodgers. He has not bought into the idea that a pitcher can't pitch at Coors Field and his home/road splits prove that thought process. De La Rosa is 4-0 at home with a 2.42 ERA in four starts. On the Road he is 2-3 with a 4.05 ERA. There is very little history between De La Rosa and the current Astros players as only Ronny Cedeno, Justin Maxwell and Carlos Pena have seen De La Rosa on the mound. Combined they are hitting .250 with no home runs and no RBI in 16 at bats against him. De La Rosa will be looking for his fifth straight win on the year as he continues to regain his form that he had prior to the surgery that cost him a year and a half of his career.
Jordan Lyles will have the job of trying to tame the Rockies bats on Tuesday afternoon. On the year Lyles has a 2-1 record with a 5.40 ERA. He is only 22 years old but he is already in his third year with the Astros after he broke in with the big club in 2011 as a 20 year old. Lyles has struggled at home on the year as he is 2-1 with a 6.30 ERA in four games started at Minute Maid Ballpark. He only has one start away from home but was good going five innings and allowing only one. As you would expect the history of Rockies players facing Lyles is very limited but the hitters who have faced him have fared well against him. In 28 at bats against him the Rockies have a .321 average with one home run and five RBI.
