Rockies Win and Even up Series against the Astros

The Colorado Rockies defeated the Houston Astros 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon and evened up the series at one as they are now heading home to Coors Field to face the Astros for the final two games of the series. It was a good pitching effort from both sides today but the Rockies were able to come out on top with the help of a timely hit from Michael Cuddyer.

Jorge De La Rosa looked very good on the day and finished going seven innings allowing five hits, one run, two walks and struck out four hitters. He now has a season ERA of 3.16. Matt Belisle worked a perfect eighth inning and was awarded the victory as the Rockies scored the go ahead run in the top of the ninth. Rafael Betancourt nailed down his 11th save of the season as he did not allow a base runner and struck out two. Belisle is 2-2 on the year with a 3.18 ERA and Betancourt lowered his season ERA to 2.41. The Houston Astros had a good start from Jordan Lyles who also went seven innings allowing six hits, one run, three walks and struck out three. Jose Veras took the loss for the Astros as he came in to work the ninth inning and gave up one run on two hits.

Offensively the Rockies were led on the day by Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Cuddyer. The Rockies had only eight hits on the day and five of them were by Tulowitzki and Cuddyer. Tulo finished the day 2-4 with a double and an RBI and also scored the game winning run in the ninth inning. Cuddyer went 3-4 with a double and the game winning RBI single in the ninth. This was a game that the Rockies needed to win and they got a big performance from both Tulo and Cuddy to ensure that they got the victory.

The Rockies will be finishing their four game series with two against the Astros and will then be taking on the Dodgers at home in a three game series starting on Friday.
