Rockies Offense Falls Asleep in the Finale

The Colorado Rockies dropped the final game and the series to the New York Yankees on Thursday afternoon at Coors Field. It was another well pitched game for both sides and the Yankees were victorious 3-1. The weather played a factor in this game as there was a 1:58 rain delay after the fourth inning which forced both Jeff Francis and CC Sabathia out of the ballgame and cost CC a chance at his fifth victory on the year. He had allowed one run on one hit through four innings before the rain shortened his outing. The offense for the Yankees was provided by Robinson Cano and Vernon Wells. Both recorded two hits and an RBI while Cano hit a homerun that extended the lead to two in the 5th inning. The Rockies were only able to scatter four singles on the day with their only run coming off of a sacrifice fly by Carlos Gonzalez in the first inning.

Congratulations are in order for Robinson Cano who became the 594th player to reach the 1500 hit club. Cano notched this hit in the third inning on an infield single that he beat out. Cano became the fifth Yankee to accomplish the feat before his 31st birthday, joining the ranks of Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, Lou Gehrig and Don Mattingly.

The Rockies are now headed on the road to take on the St Louis Cardinals for a three game set over the weekend and then they head to Chicago for three games starting on Monday. Walt Weiss will be looking to get back on track as they take on the Cardinals who hold the best record in all of baseball entering play today.
