This Day in Baseball History: 5/30

 A Look at May 30th in the Pages of Baseball History

1894- Bob Lowe becomes the first player in Major League history to hit four home runs in a game. His offensive night helps Boston beat Cincinnati 20-11 in the second game of a double header.

1935- Babe Ruth plays his final Major League game going hit less against a game with the Phillies. He would officially announce his retirement from the game of baseball on June 2nd.




1982- Cal Ripken Jr. begins his consecutive games played streak which would ultimately lead to a 17 year streak and 2,632 consecutive games played by him when all was said and done and the streak ended in 1998.

1986- Barry Bonds makes his Major League debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The future home run king goes 0-5 in the game with three strikeouts in a 6-4 loss for against the Dodgers.

1998- Mark McGwire hits his 27th home run of the season which sets the all-time record for most home runs hit before the month of June. McGwire would finish the year breaking Roger Maris's previous record of 61 home runs in a year by hitting 70 on the season.
